So, as you can see (or maybe if you’re on Tumblr, you don’t see — I’m not sure yet!), I’ve finished work on my portfolio site here! I’ll be trying to post more blog posts here, and also add more artwork to my portfolio. It’s late now and I’m pretty tired, though, so I’m heading to bed. Hooray! Stuff!

Just testing to see whether all my crossposting works correctly!

Alright! So I have some time this week, and I really *really* want to have some money to spend at Emerald City Comicon next week. As it stands, I’m going to be seeing a bajillion artists I love and admire, and have nothing to spend to support them. So I decided to open up pay what you want commissions.

Basically, I am opening up five slots to start with. The commissions will be character-only — no backgrounds — and you can choose either penciled or inked. I will get it done and send you your file, then you send me money to my paypal. However much you think it’s worth/can spend/whatever. I’m not going to be spending a lot of time on these because I do still have a lot of other things to work on!

You can go as low as $1 or as high as you want. Unfortunately, I cannot do free.

Sketched will look something like a panel from the sketch comics at Broken Glass.

Inked will look something like this.

Current Slots:
1. Jimbosmash
2. Christy S.
3. Jimbosmash
4.
5.

Just send me an ask by dropping me an email at cvilbrandt@greyinkstudios.com with your request. Include any reference photos or description as needed! I will be starting on these later in the day.

If those goes swimmingly, I might open up another few slots after, depending on my work load. We shall see!

ETA: Oh yeah, and no porn please. Thanks :D

Uhhh Tumblr theme why are you not showing them as numbers? :(

I'll tumblr for ya: Portfolio advice

coelasquid:

From someone who makes terrible portfolios

(but knows in theory how they work)

  • Keep them short, 10-15 pieces. The more stuff you have, the more likely your potential employer will get bored and skim over the stuff you really want them to see
  • If you’re on the fence about anything, take it out….

This is absolutely excellent portfolio advice.

APE IN A CAPE: Female Comics Creators On Tumblr?

gailsimone:

A while back, I asked for creators who identified as LGBTQ to announce themselves and promote their work in a massive thread right here on Tumblr. It got hundreds of responses and tons of links to some incredibly wonderful work, most of which has not yet received the exposure it deserves, quite a…

Well, howdy. I’m one of the contributors on Womanthology! My name is Caytlin Vilbrandt and I work with Samantha Mathis to create Walking on Broken Glass. I’ve been drawing since I can remember and started drawing comics when I was 9 or so. I did a brief stint in high school and early college doing a webcomic called Tar and Feathers, but it was a failed experiment and it pretty much died. Now, though, WoBG is what I consider my full-time job, and I love it to pieces.

So, Moebius passed away recently. Naturally, we’re seeing a lot of love pouring out for the man and his work. Very appropriate, very well-deserved. And it’s a shame that he’ll never hear all these great things people are saying.

Of course, this is Moebius we’re talking about, and he received no shortage of praise in his lifetime, but the praise is never so heartfelt and thick-on-the-ground as it is at a time like this.

I know I’m not the only “artist” who sometimes feels less-than-confident in his own work. It seems safe to estimate that the majority of artists are a bundle of insecure, anxious nerves. Okay, maybe not to that extreme, but self-confidence is not generally thought to be one of the key strengths of the artist. There are exceptions, of course, but neuroses run deep in this crowd.

What I’m suggesting is this: imagine your favourite artist were to die RIGHT NOW. Don’t worry - thinking about it won’t make it happen. Statistically speaking, it is unlikely that you have the power to kill people with your mind. Anyway, what would you say about that artist after learning that he/she had passed? Take that sentiment and share it with them RIGHT NOW. Or share it with the world at large. The worst thing that could happen is that you might make someone feel a little bit more awesome (because again, it is unlikely that you can kill with your thoughts).

[It’s possible you may interpret this as me fishing for compliments. You’ll have to take my word for it, but that’s not the case. Since wrapping up Delilah Dirk online, I have received a glut of very nice, very supportive emails. My ego-box is full for the year.]
